Weekend Breaks to Rome
The Italian capital is famous for so many things and quite rightly so. It’s a huge historical monument, oil painting, religious centre and city of romance all rolled into one. This guarantees that any group holiday will satisfy the needs of everyone who is part of the trip.
What to See in Rome
History will surely play a part in any short break in Rome and during the day you will no doubt want to take in one or more of the city’s ancient landmarks, including the Colosseum, the Forum and the Pantheon. More recent history is also a major feature of the sightseeing trail, with the Spanish Steps and the Trevi fountain perhaps the most famous of the non-ancient attractions in the city. Rome is also a place where there are lots of magnificent streets and squares to soak up. Piazza Navona is one of these, featuring three magnificent fountains, bars, cafes, stalls and street performers to enjoy. There are of course many other squares, parks, churches, temples and museums to choose from.
Rome has many superb restaurants and the trick is to avoid the tourist traps for your hen weekend, stag weekend or other type of short break by doing some research before your trip. Matricianella offers traditional and more creative dishes at good prices, Il Bocconcino is usually especially friendly, and Matricianella and Passaguai are also worth checking out. When it’s time for a drink, Cul de Sac, Bar San Calisto, Etabli and Brasserie 4:20 (known for its big range of beers) all maintain a very authentic feel. If your trip is celebrating something special, Jerry Thomas Speakeasy and its cool New York 1920s gangster vibe and cocktails will make for a unique experience. Deep into the small hours, L'Alibi and Akab are just two of many clubs in the Testaccio district worth considering. More centrally, clubs like Shari Vari Playhouse and Room26 are popular spots.
Finding a suitable hotel in crucial for any organiser of a group holiday in Rome, so we are pleased to be able to help you make the right choice. The Modigliani hotel is very central and combines traditional and modern touches, while the Raffaello has plenty of character: both are reasonably priced. Slightly more expensive options include the Relais Giulia and the Kolbe.
